Launch of the "#Lëtzebuergtestsech" action: Vaccinated or not, a COVID-19 test is still important

In order to get a clearer picture of the infection trend in the country, the Luxembourg Government is organising the #Lëtzebuergtestsech action from 13 to 19 December.

In this context, each household in Luxembourg received a letter in the week of 6 to 12 December, with an invitation to collect a kit of 5 antigen self-tests from one of the 98 pharmacies in the country.

The distribution of these kits should allow the whole population to test themselves collectively on two specific days during this week (with a space of 3 to 4 days between the two tests):

  • The first test will take place on Tuesday 14 December
  • The second test will take place on Friday 17 December

(The action is not aimed at the school sector. Pupils and staff will continue to be tested 3 times a week at school.)

"Through this action, which consists of carrying out large-scale tests, we will have a real-time reflection of the country's health situation and, thanks to the detection of positive cases, the isolation of the people concerned can be accelerated", explains Minister of Health Paulette Lenert.

A high level of participation of the population will significantly help reduce the number of new infections before the end-of-year festivities and family reunions and avoid the implementation of more restrictive measures like those in other countries (closure of restaurants or even a new lockdown).

With a current positivity rate of about 8-10% of PCR tests performed and with a large participation of the population in the #Lëtzebuergtestsech, it would be possible to decrease the number of new infections by 50% to stop the current wave.

How to take part in the #Lëtzebuergtestsech?

  • Go to a pharmacy and pick up your antigen test kit with your letter.
  • (Alternatively, other antigen self-tests can be used).
  • During the week of 13-19 December, test yourself on 14 and 17 December (the two days chosen by the Government for the joint action) or on two other dates of your choice (keeping a space of 3 to 4 days between the two tests).

Share your participation, with or without a photo, on social networks using the #Lëtzebuergtestsech and/or including @sante.lu and all your friends.

Do you have a positive test? Do you have a positive test? Report it immediately on covidtracing.public.lu so that the competent authorities can get in touch with you and thus help us to better control the pandemic.

If you are positive, please also follow the recommendations in this video.

Each positive test reported is counted and statistics will be published at the end of the testing week.
